Description of Class Levels
Level I
Beginning level yoga for those who have never taken yoga before and for those new to the Iyengar method. We highly recommend taking this level twice before progressing to the next level.
Level I Continuing
Two sessions of Level 1 required. Basic poses are refined, new poses, including headstand and some backbends will be added. Many students take this level several times before progressing to the next level.
Level II
For continuing students who are practicing the basic poses and headstand and shoulder stand. More of all the intermediate poses will be added and refinements of basic poses continued.
Level II Continuing
For students who have been taking Level 2 for some time and who would like a deeper study of the poses and more vigorous work in general. Students should be working regularly on Sirsanana, Sarvangasana, Adho Mukha Vrksasana, and Urdhva Dhanurasana, or know any adaptations that they may need for these poses.
Mixed Levels
Open to those students of any level who have previously taken at least one session of Level I.
Ageless Yoga
For those who wish to increase their flexibility and strength and reduce stress through yoga but who may have some physical limitations or require a less strenuous class.
Special Needs
Many physical problems can benefit from the practice of yoga postures taught in the regular classes at The Yoga Place. The Special Needs class is designed to help students who need more assistance with their particular challenges. Each student will be given an individualized sequence of postures that they will perform with the help of an experienced student or teacher. Examples of people who might benefit from this class are those with chronic musculo-skeletal problems such as neck, shoulder, knee, hip or low back pain, those with high blood pressure, heart problems, recovering from surgery or chemotherapy, pregnant women and those with gynecological concerns. Students must be ambulatory and able to follow directions. An interview with Chris is a prerequisite to participation in this class.
