News from The Yoga Place - June 2008
Dear Friends,
Summer session will begin on June 23rd and registration starts Monday, June 9th. The regular classes will be held for 9 weeks total with a week break during the week of July 4th.
We have a few special classes during the summer including the kids and teen classes (8 weeks starting after July 4th) and a week of morning sessions specifically targeted for runners. Actually the runner's classes are for anyone who is particularly active during the summer, running, biking, hiking, and gardening - essentially any activity that tends to tighten up your legs, hips and back! All of the teachers are working together to make an effective program for these classes but Elizabeth is scheduled to teach it.
Yoga is a great activity for children and teens. It not only helps with strength, flexibility, balance, coordination etc., but it is also an activity that is not competitive, builds self- confidence and a good body image. The philosophy helps develop awareness in everything we do, encourages self-study, cooperation, and compassion.
There is also an evening class on developing your personal practice. I held two sessions like this a while back and students have been asking me to do this again. I know many may be gone on vacation on July 3rd but I will hold another such session later in the summer if there is enough interest from those who cannot come on July 3rd. For those of you in town, this gives you a good opportunity to get a practice going or to tune up your personal practice.
You will note a slight increase in the price per class for the next session. The fees for our classes have not been increased for more than two years now but the rent and cost of everything else keeps going up. In addition, I have been informed that the rent will be increased significantly in the fall. The increase in our fees is less than $.40/class. Depending on the exact rent increase, there may be another small increase in the fall.
For anyone who finds the increase in the price of classes unmanageable, please remember that we do have a scholarship fund (the Randi Chaikin Yoga for Life Fund) and you can apply for partial payment of your classes. For everyone else, we do accept donations to this scholarship fund at any time.
Volunteers needed! I have two
workshops to prepare teachers for assessment coming up June 26-28
and June 29-July 1. For these workshops, I will need some volunteers to
house out-of-town guests as well as students for the practice teaching classes.
Sign-up sheets will be at The Yoga Place starting sometime next week.
I am writing this in the midst of the Swati Chanchani workshop. It is a great
pleasure for me to have Swati here and to be able to provide such a wonderful
opportunity to study with such an incredible teacher. Thanks to all of you who
supported the workshops at The Yoga Place. And to those who were unable to come
- there will be a next time!
Thank you for your continued support of The Yoga Place!
Sincerely,
Chris Saudek
