News from The Yoga Place - December 2008
Dear Friends,
Thanks to all who bought raffle tickets for the scholarship fund; we raised $260! The winners have been notified by phone and were Jane Vandervanett, Jean Hindson, Carol Mader, Roberta Gelatt, Hillary Dwyer, Diane Uhls, Joan Gundersen, Betty Goodenough, Francie Ball, and Kathryn Hetebrink.
Thank you too to everyone who bought the Christmas cards or donated money for the orphanage in Nepal. Nearly $500 was received and this amount will greatly help support the children.
Registration is taking place now for the Winter 2009 session and it is important that you register before January 2nd if possible. Because I will be leaving for India on January 4th, January 2nd is the date on which we will review registrations and determine whether we will hold classes with low enrollment.
We seldom cancel classes but we did need to on Tuesday, December 9th due to weather. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this caused. It was announced on Z-93, on our answering machine, and on the website. If you are wondering about class occurrence, the best bet is to call the office about one hour before class and listen to the answering machine message. I asked the concerned students to make-up in another class in the last two weeks. Normally there is no carry-over of classes from one session to the next; however, in this case, anyone registered for the Tuesday morning classes of December 9th can make up the missed class in the Winter session. Please just let the teacher know that it is your make-up for the Fall/Winter 2008 session snow day.
Some students have now heard the sad news that Elizabeth will eventually be moving out of the area due to her husband’s job. She will definitely not be teaching in March, April, and May but may be back in La Crosse for awhile after that. There will need to be some adjustments to the schedule due to this, but they are not yet determined. As soon as they are, they will be announced in classes at The Yoga Place. I doubt that anyone is as sad as I am about this news; Elizabeth has been a devoted student, an excellent teacher for many, and a wonderful friend to me. She will surely be missed.
I have been running a teacher training program with students from Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines and Iowa City in Madison for many years now but would like to start one in La Crosse for those interested in eventually teaching Iyengar yoga. It would most likely start by meeting once a month or every two weeks on a Saturday or Sunday for 3 hours at a time. Anyone who is interested should let me know as soon as possible so I can try to set up some dates before I leave if there are enough interested people.
