News from The Yoga Place - December 2008

Dear Friends,

There are just three weeks left in the current yoga session (it was a short 6-week session due to Thanksgiving and Christmas).  I am sure you are all especially busy now with the brief time between the holidays but don't miss your yoga class!   Especially don't miss the last week of classes because there is always a special treat for each of you on your way out!

This coming Sunday, December 7th, is our annual open house from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  The teachers make some great Indian snacks and tea for you to enjoy along with good fellowship.  This year is a very special one for at least two reasons:  2008 marks the 20-year anniversary of The Yoga Place and December 14th is B.K.S. Iyengar's 90th birthday!  So please come and join us for celebration.  There is a sign-up sheet at The Yoga Place and we appreciate knowing approximately how many people will come so we prepare the right quantities of food.  But if you don't sign up and decide you want to come at the last minute, we have always had enough food!  You are also welcome to bring friends and family.

It is once again time to sign up for the next sessionRegistration for the Winter 2009 session begins the week of December 8th.  We really appreciate early registrations.  Also, consider giving a gift certificate to The Yoga Place to someone dear to you.

My husband and I support an orphanage in Kathmandu and each Christmas the kids put together special batik Christmas cards for us to sell.  They are now on sale at The Yoga Place.  When we were in Kathmandu in October we met the 5 children who we support and the couple who has taken them into their home.  If you would like to give to a good cause, please consider buying some of the cards.

I will be in India in January attending the wedding of the daughter of a good friend and taking classes at the Iyengar Institute.  Due to the recent terrorism in India we considered not going.  However, the world may forever be in turmoil now, and we realize we are never completely safe unless we always stay at home.  Unfortunately, the grandson of one of my dear friends in Pune was a chef at the Taj and killed in the attack. I have often walked through the Taj hotel and visited friends who stayed there.  It is hard to imagine the shambles it is in now and the tragic deaths that have taken place.

Please note the mandala painting that will be on display at The Yoga Place for a little while.  It was designed by the Dalai Lama to promote world peace and I purchased it in Kathmandu in October.  I think it is especially appropriate to have it for all to see at this time in our history.

Peace and blessings for the holiday season,

Chris Saudek
