Ins and Outs of Upside Down

Since this whole “yoga on Zoom” situation has happened, so many of you have found spaces and places in your home for practice! It has been amazing to watch and follow progress in a different way than when we are able to be in a studio together.

However, one of the things that is lost is the ability for the teacher to be a physical help and energetic presence to empower you to push a little beyond your own edge. There is a “comfort zone” in yoga that is great and perfectly useful. And then there is the “comfort zone” that holds us back from our full potentials.

The “All Levels” classes, though useful when we are not able to provide a full schedule, leave little time to give details and variations that are easier to demonstrate in a physical class. Most of you are left to do an alternative that you already know, but maybe is not exactly the right thing for you at the moment.

So, we have decided to offer a 4-week special class series to enable you to ask your burning questions and help you hone your skills and set-ups for inversions. For Iyengar Yoga, the inversions are an important inclusion to practice, offering balance, strength, and focus for the physical, mental, hormonal, and emotional systems – they are the “KING” and “QUEEN” of asanas!

This special course of classes is meant for current “All Levels” students of The Yoga Place. You will need at least 3 blankets, one brick, a strap, and any kind of chair.

The first two weeks of the sessions we will cover SARVANGASANA (shoulder stand). The second two weeks we will cover SIRSASANA (head stand):

In these weeks we will cover the following for both poses:

  • Poses to build-up strength and flexibility and build your confidence
  • Set-ups for Beginners
  • Ways to move forward or improve if you are continuing
  • Variations and possibilities if there are any issues

Classes begin next Monday night, October 26th, from 6:30-7:30pm. Sign up NOW! You will find it under “Special Classes” in your MindBody app. A minimum of 6 students are needed for the classes to be held and you must sign up for them as a series.

If you have questions that you would like covered, please contact Jennie Williford at jennie@yogalacrosse.com before the end of the week.

Jennie Williford (CIYT Level 3) is a transplant to LaCrosse via Montana, Illinois, and originally Texas. Throughout her life moves and 5 trips to India, Jennie has acquired a well-rounded and multi-faceted approach to Iyengar Yoga since her start in 1998. Jennie loves the experimental and explorative nature of yoga in accessing deeper knowledge of the Self on every level. The practice of yoga can be intense and introspective, however as practitioners we can be light-hearted and open-minded in our discipline. Jennie is intrigued by the philosophy of yoga and hopes to share this depth of subject while teaching the physical and mental benefits that come from the practice of posture.
